Meet the speakers:

  • Priya Sinh.  Hi, I’m Priya. I have been a pharmacist at the Gold Coast University Hospital for almost five years now. What I love most about my job is the clinical diversity and multi-disciplinary approach to healthcare. Being part of a team and contributing to a patients recovery is the most fulfilling part of this job. Recently, I have started engaging in research which has been enormously rewarding as the evidence has been used to clinically benefit patients and provide economic benefits for the health service. I can genuinely say that I love coming to work every single day.

Currently the Pharmacist Team Leader for the Kidney Health Service at Royal Brisbane and Women's hospital, she has also taught and tutored at the University of Queensland and James Cook University pharmacy schools. Carla is the co-chair of the Society of Hospital Pharmacists Nephrology special interest group and is a member of the CARI guidelines steering committee. Her previous roles include being a Home Medicines Review pharmacist, a community pharmacy manager and owner, a Quality Use of Medicine facilitator for the National Prescribing Service and GP, and pharmacist clinical educator. An emerging researcher, Carla is currently undertaking a PhD investigating microsampling and the pharmacist’s role in kidney transplant care.

  • Nicolas Anning. Nic is a surgical pharmacist at the RBWH. He primarily works with inpatients undergoing upper-gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and thoracic surgery, and outpatients who are preparing to undergo or have undergone bariatric surgery. He is completing a PhD part-time at UQ in this clinical area.

  • Vanessa Muller. Vanessa is an ICU Pharmacist at Cairns Hospital up in tropical FNQ. I studied pharmacy at Griffith University and have worked as a hospital pharmacist across various sites in Queensland for the last 9 years. I have a strong interest in critical care and perioperative pharmacy, and on the weekends enjoy chasing turtles in the Great Barrier Reef.

  • Jorgia Martin. I underwent my internship at Mackay Base Hospital, and continued working there for almost a year as a clinical pharmacist. I then relocated to my hometown of Mount Isa where I began working as a clinical pharmacist in the Mount Isa Hospital. Throughout my time in the Mount Isa Hospital, I have worked as a telehealth pharmacist, delivering clinical inpatient services to rural sites that have not have a pharmacist. I have also worked as the outreach pharmacist, travelling to rural sites to support pharmacy nurses, hospitals, and clinics without a pharmacist on site or in the town. I have also spent time as a cancer care pharmacist. My current position is as the senior clinical pharmacist where I work in medication safety, clinical education, AMS and ICU. However I have also recently started working part-time as the acting director of pharmacy. What I love about working in rural pharmacy is developing a broad range of skills in multiple areas, as well as having many opportunities to upskill and develop your practice.

  • Lucy Parker, Lucy Parker lives in Toowoomba and works as the Senior Pharmacist with the Transition Care Program for Darling Downs Health, the Clinical Educator - Pharmacy for Southern Queensland Rural Health and as an Accredited Pharmacist conducting HMRs. Lucy has worked as a community pharmacist, for the ADF, and as a hospital pharmacist. She’s passionate about rural health care and is excited to answer your questions and let you know about the opportunities for gaining experience across a broad range of clinical areas and fast tracking your career as a health professional at a rural hospital

  • Rosa Nguyen, Started working in QH in 2018 - rural healthcare (Southwest HHS). Worked at Ipswich in 2019 as a rotational junior pharmacist - multiple rotations, including HITH which I greatly enjoyed. Senior pharmacist with HITH at Community and Oral Health (under MNHHS) during 2020. Specialist pharmacist at Ipswich Hospital in 2021 (palliative care + medical oncology) and now works as a Senior pharmacist at Caboolture Hospital (current position). All in all - multiple experiences across different health services which have taught me how important it is to take opportunities as they come but also that there is always plenty more to come if you feel like one isn't quite right for you
