SHPA maintains support for Vaping Reforms Bill

On behalf of our members, the SHPA today reiterates its support for much-needed vaping reform, the first step of which is the Therapeutic Goods and other Legislation (Vaping Reforms) Bill 2024 currently before the Senate.

SHPA recognises that while the proposed amendments are not preferred, the bill remains the best chance yet of getting vapes out of the hands of children, which is the overarching public health goal.

SHPA expects that as per routine process, the TGA will be engaged to make independent decisions informed by stakeholder consultation prior to final decisions on scheduling for all nicotine vaping products.

Hospital pharmacists provide care for Australians suffering the severe negative health impacts of smoking and are passionate in their leadership of evidence-based smoking cessation clinics and anti-smoking interventions.

The tobacco and vaping industries are working hard to addict a new generation of young Australians to nicotine through their vaping products. Pharmacists in all care settings must be supported to help Australians on their quitting journey, to spare the next generation from the devastating effects of smoking addiction we see everyday.
