Campuses where pharmacy intern will work: Shepparton, Seymour

Goulburn Valley Health (GV Health) is a leader in healthcare delivery in the Hume Region located at Shepparton, Tatura and Rushworth. The main campus in Shepparton is the major acute referral hospital for the sub region. Additional sites are also located in Shepparton, Seymour, Benalla, Cobram, Echuca and Wodonga. GV Health provides a range of acute, subacute, mental health, aged, primary health and community services across the Goulburn Sub-Region within the Hume Region. GV Health's services include a 24-hour Emergency Department, Surgery, Medical Services, Women’s and Children’s Services, Rehabilitation and Palliative Care, Mental Health, Outpatients, services at Tatura and Rushworth, and community-based health programs. (Hospital in the Home, diabetes education, continence and aged care assessment, home based nursing and allied health).

GV Health is currently undergoing a $230 million redevelopment, stage 1 redevelopment is now completed with an established new renal dialysis unit, an expanded emergency department including satellite medical imaging, inpatient wards, extended theatre space, intensive care unit, and refurbished maternity ward.

Intern program information

One intern position is available in 2024 (government-funded)

 The newly developed Pharmacy Intern Program will be divided in three areas: Dispensary, Manufacturing/OTC and Clinical. Preceptor and science educator are here to provide one-on-one supervision the first three to four weeks of each rotation. At GV Health, we value education for pharmacy interns – all qualified pharmacists will take turn to participate in intern training, supervision and share ideas. As the pharmacy intern develops, skills he/she is assessed as competent by the supervisor to the training records signed to indicate attainment. The preceptor and intern will have ongoing formative assessment and feedback sessions throughout the intern year, which may help to modify teaching and learning activities so that better learning outcomes can be achieved by the intern.

In May/June, the intern will participate actively in Health Promotion Project in GV Health and assist the reparation of the Annual Regional Weekend Meeting for Pharmacy Intern and Early Stage Career Pharmacists.

In GV Health, we also have an Allied Health (Sciences) Clinical Educator helps mentor and provides education opportunities and regular reflective practice discussion group for Pharmacy Intern to join – topics such as Dealing with conflicts, Resilience, Dealing with death/patient deterioration, Time Management, Professionalism and Accountability, etc. will be provided to ensure on Pharmacy Intern will have support other than just from the Pharmacy Department.
